I had the honor of being asked to speak at Christ Church Unity of Rockford yesterday. My friend Tricia Alexander is doing a series of talks there each month this year, and she asked if I would summarize the first three lessons, and introduce lesson 5, titled The Keys To The Kingdom. I did not realize in my preparation for the talk that I would joke about what a difficult task it is to discuss even one of these lessons in just twenty minutes – but that is just what happened as I started the talk.
Another thing that just poured out of me, was the idea of how deep this work is, and comparing it to learning the alphabet, or counting to 100, and then learning addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. When we learn those things, we have no idea that the alphabet will let us comprehend great literature, and read technical manuals. When we learn numbers and simple math, we have no idea that we are learning the building blocks for geometry, calculus, and trigonometry, which will allow us to build bridges, skyscrapers, and rockets to the moon.
That is just what happens the first time I read a lesson from any great text, including The Way of Mastery. I must expose myself to that material many times over, with the observation that I don’t know everything yet, so what I think I know must either be only partially true, or possibly even completely false. If I do that, with the willingness to be taught, I will enter a life-long process of learning, at deeper and deeper levels which I had no idea were even possible the first few times I read, or listened to the material.
I am including a link to the audio file of the talk on my website.
Please feel free to share this with anyone you feel may be interested.
We Come From Love. We Are Made Of Love. We Are Love. Everything else is false.
