Dear Friends,

As I mentioned in my last post,  we  will continue watching the lecture on the Mayan Calendars and Consciousness.  In the lecture so far, Ian has invited us to question the nature of consciousness and how our individual consciousness is shaped  by the  culture we live in, and the values that culture promotes.  He also invited us to question the role of a calendar in a culture and how the calendar serves to focus the attention of a culture on exactly what that culture values.

In the next section of the lecture, Ian encourages us to question whether or not we ‘ARE’, our minds, (our brains).  Ian proposes that the mind is simply a tool and in this sense he is referring to the physical brain and how fast it can process information.  He asks us to question whether there is something other than the physical brain which contains our consciousness, and what implications this may have for our lives if it is true.
